PKR man gets three months' jail for contempt of court



The High Court in Kuala Lumpur currently sentenced blogger Amizudin Ahmat to three months' jail after finding him guilty of disregard of justice by serve edition eleven articles shaming Information, Communications as well as Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.

Judge Zabariah Mohd Yusof, in her ruling, pronounced which Amizudin had breached a justice sequence prohibiting him from edition such articles upon Rais in his blogsite.

"This is a critical disregard case. The justice imposes a custodial sequence of three months jail, effective today," she added.

After Zabariah review out her judgment, Amizudin, who was outside a dock, rose as well as said: "I admit my mistakes. we apologise. we don't understand."

To this, Zabariah pronounced which had Amizudin not understood a justice order, he should have asked his lawyer.

On November twenty-one final year, Rais, 70, was postulated leave to commence committal record opposite Amizudin in propinquity to a suit filed by Rais.

On July 19 final year, Rais won his suit as well as a blogger was systematic by a High Court to pay RM300,000 in damages as well as RM100,000 in costs to a minister.

Rais filed a suit upon January 31, 2011, opposite Amizudin, 42, who is a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth cabinet member, for defamation over an essay posted upon a latter's blogsite,sharpshooterblogger. blogspot.com, upon or about December 28, 2010.
Ear! lier in mitigation, Amizudin's lawyer, Ahmad Nizam Hamid, asked a justice to not impose a jail sentence upon his customer by receiving into account his client's apology.

However, counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, representing Rais, pronounced Amizudin had breached a justice sequence not once, though by posting eleven some-more articles.

"If once, we can regard it as an error, t! hough el even times, as well as in a defamatory articles, a contemnor wrote clearly which he was aware of a justice sequence prohibiting him from you do so.

"Perhaps this is a misfortune as well as bad disregard record regulating difference which we can described as 'jijik' (disgusting)," he added.
