Namun bagi DAP, Mahathir adalah paksi segala kejahatan yang mampu membungkuskan dan melupuskan DAP buat selama-lamanya. Hanya kerana berpegang kepada prinsip demokrasi yang menjadi asas kepada kewujudan negara ini, maka Mahathir bersikap lebih toleran terhadap DAP biarpun pada ketika mudanya, Mahathir pernah dicop oleh DAP dan Lee Kuan Yew sebagai Melayu Ultra semata-mata kerana Mahathir mempertahankan hak-hak Melayu-Islam dan Bumiputera sepertimana yang termaktub dalam Perlembagaan Malaysia.

DAP tidak mampu berhadapan secara terus mata dengan Mahathir ketika Mahathir sedang berkuasa dahulu. Kit Siang yang begitu mudah menyinga dan Karpal Singh yang sentiasa tegak bulu hidungnya, ketika di zaman Mahathir, sekadar tukang bangkang yang kerja bangkangannya lebih berkualiti berbanding selepas zaman Mahathir turun kuasa.
