Rakyat kita kini mempunyai ilmu serta akal fikiran yang untuk berfikir, namun disebabkan ia (maklumat) datang dengan bertalu-talu menyebabkan fikiran kita mudah terpengaruh dengan perkara sebegitu, tambah beliaunya ketika menyampaikan ucapan dasar dan perasmian Mesyuarat Agung Tahunan PERKIM Ke-51 di Taiping, hari ini.

Sehubungan itu, Tun Mahathir menegaskan sebagai umat Islam menjadi keperluan untuk mereka melengkapkan diri dengan ilmu supaya dapat memberi pengajaran kepada umat Islam khususnya remaja yang begitu mudah terpengaruh dengan serangan moral yang cuba dibawa masuk oleh Barat.

Apabila umat Islam itu sendiri sudah terpengaruh dengan pemikiran yang dibawa, orang Barat akan cuba mengubah agama Islam ke arah yang lebih liberal dan paling utama bercanggah serta bertentangan dengan agama, jelasnya lagi.

Tun Mahathir juga meminta agar umat Islam agar berpegang teguh kepada nilai-nilai murni yang dianjurkan dalam agama Islam.

Tambahnya, umat Islam juga harus membekalkan diri masing-masing dengan ilmu yang mencukupi untuk menangkis idea yang cuba ditonjolkan oleh Barat terutamanya dalam menghalalkan hubungan sesama jantina.

Larangan agama mempunyai asasnya kerana hanya lelaki yang berkahwin dengan perempuan boleh mendapat zuriat.

Jika berlaku perkahwinan sesama jenis, maka generasi tersebut akan hilang dalam sesebuah bangsa dan kemudiaannya bangsa itu akan mati, katanya lagi.
