Semangat yang sama wujud di kalangan rakyat Malaysia semenjak negara mencapai kemerdekaan dan berjaya menghadapi krisis seperti konfrontasi dengan negara jiran dan kemelesetan ekonomi. Memang negara masih berhadapan seribu satu permasalahan yang belum ada penyelesaian yang boleh memuaskan hati semua pihak. Hakikatnya walaupun setiap rakyat mempunyai cita-cita dan impian masing-masing, susah dan senang akan dihadapi bersama demi negara tercinta.
Presiden Obama mengucapkan tahniah kepada lawannya Mitt Romney yang telah menentangnya dalam satu kempen yang sengit. Itulah sebabnya pilihanraya diadakan di dalam sesebuah demokrasi. Ketika itulah peluang rakyat turut serta dan boleh membuat pilihan yang nyata tentang siapa seharusnya memimpin mereka. Proses itu sendiri tidaklah begitu mudah untuk dilaksanakan di dalam sebuah negara majmuk seperti Malaysia tetapi itulah satu-satunya jalan supaya suara rakyat dapat didengar. Pemimpin yang dipilih berada di kerusi parlimen bukanlah untuk bersenang-lenang tetapi memikul tanggungjawab dan memegang amanah para pengundi untuk menjalankan tugas sebagai seorang wakil rakyat sebaik mungkin.
Apa yang tidak dapat dielakkan malah pasti ialah kepercayaan mendalam masing-masing yang akan membara apabila sesuatu keputusan besar harus diambil dan mencetuskan pelbagai pendapat yang berbeza. Keadaan ini tidak akan berubah pada bila-bila masa kerana perbezaan pendapat akan sentiasa wujud dan harus diingat kebebasan bersuara ini amat berharga. Ramai di negara-negara lain tidak menikmati langsung hak bersuara dan kita harus menggunakannya dengan penuh tanggungjawab.
Cita-cita dan harapan rakyat
Semua ma! hukan an ak-anak mereka membesar di dalam sebuah negara yang menyediakan guru dan sekolah yang terbaik. Negara yang boleh bersaing dalam bidang penyelidikan dan inovasi serta memberi peluang pekerjaan dan perniagaan yang baik kepada mereka yang berusaha. Negara yang tidak dibebani hutang, tidak lemah angkara ketidaksamarataan dan tidak diancam oleh pencemaran alam sekitar.
Mungkinkah ini juga Malaysia yang diidamkan semua?

Kumpulan warganegara baru ini mengimbas kembali penghijrahan datuk nenek kita sendiri pada satu masa dahulu yang datang ke tanah bertuah ini untuk mencari rezeki. Sumbangan mereka tidak harus dipersia-siakan malahan digembleng. Selagi mereka bergelar warganegara dan telah menyatakan taat setia kepada negara, niat dan tujuan mereka ke sini tidak harus diragui. Negara ini masih cukup luas dan memberi peluang kepada semua yang mahu berusaha memperbaiki taraf hidup mereka.
Perbalahan akan terus berlaku kerana masing-masing mempunyai pendapat tersendiri tentang bagaimana cara dan jalan terbaik mencapai sesuatu matlamat. Kadang-kadang kemajuan yang dicapai tidaklah semudah yang dijangkakan. Begitulah juga dengan proses pilihanraya. Tugas pengundi tidak berhenti setelah kertas undi di masukkan ke dalam peti undi. Setelah proses pembuangan undi, para pengundi mesti terus bekerja dan berusaha bersama-sama wakil yang dipilih untuk mencapai cita-cita yang terpendam.
