Nazri: Malaysia is not a secular state

While stopping reduced of declaring Malaysia to be an Islamic state, a sovereign minister stressed today which a country was not founded as a secular state.

Nor has it ever been declared or decided to be one, Minister in a Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz told a Dewan Rakyat during Question Time today.

"Malaysia was founded upon a basement of an Islamic government, under a Malay rulers... The word secular does not exist at all anywhere in a sovereign constitution," Nazri said

What was obviously settled in a constitution, Nazri added, was which Islam is a religion of a federation.

He afterwards went upon to quote constitutional as well as authorised provisions which preserve as well as protect a status as well as function of Islam in a country.
