SHAH ALAM -- Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar advised the organisers of the Bersih assembly planned at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 30 to not mix Merdeka Day celebrations with politics. "Merdeka is a matter related to the people. They'll be celebrating the country's 55th independence day, so don't make it a political issue. "Whether you want to gather or make a speech, there is a law for everything and we must follow the laws of the country," he said at a press conference after launching Ops Selamat, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, at Dataran Shah Alam, here. Ismail was asked to comment on the planned gathering which is expected to be held at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 30, to coincide with this year's Merdeka Day celebrations. Ismail was asked to comment upon a planned entertainment which is approaching to be held during Dataran Merdeka upon August 30, to coincide with this year's Merdeka Day celebrations.

"If everybody follows a law a nation will remain peaceful," added.
