Petronas CEO wants gas subsidies to go



Petronas arch senior manager officer Shamsul Azhar Abbas today called for a dismissal of gas subsidies, saying it is "detrimental" to a industry.

In his opening remarks during a World Gas Conference 2012, he pronounced which usually a liberalised gas marketplace will provide impetus for investments.

"I believe which gas prices should be left to be dynamic by marketplace forces.

"In a long term, a unsustainable arrangement of subsidising gas prices would prove detrimental to a industry, as it adds an additional layer of care to a own commercial viability," he said.

It was reported which Petronas had mislaid RM133 billion in revenue due to gas subsidies to independent energy producers from 1997 to Mar 2011.
