Beware of BERSIH3.0 Aftershocks

COMMENT BERSIH 3.0 is the government's stupid though dangerous cat-and-mouse game. The cat hid in the dim as good as slippery corner to lay the trap. The rodent got snared. Then the cat came out as good as beat the daylights out of the quarry: "We finished them; the reformasi is over." Really?

Let's get one thing clear. The total conflict was premeditated as good as distributed to inflict maximum injury. And it did. This was to overpower open dissent opposite an increasingly unpopular regime.

But the storm is far from over. It has become the tellurian phenomenon spreading to over 80 cities across 35 countries where there have been Malaysians.

NONEThe universe is examination yet it was an additional heartless as good as meaningless conflict upon the pacific assembly. Just like final year as good as the one previously.

Police have been accused of disorderly play as good as assaulting media crew during the BERSIH 3.0 rally, with several reports of mainly video-graphers as good as photographers being arrested whilst attempting to jot down incidents of the carnage.

Yet, the little in the investiture media were quick to start the blame game, dogmatic the government trusting of wrongdoing when the jury's still out.

Among those arrested was Malaysiakini photojournalist Koh June Lin whose camera as good as mental recall label were confiscated. His camera was after returned. Another photographer was systematic to undo his shots of the fiasco, though when he refused, the policeman removed his mental recall label as good as destroyed it.

A Guangming photographer was arrested as good as after released. Bu! t his ca mera, worth about RM12,000, went missing.A Sin Chew contributor was knocked about to the pulp. It was additionally reported which the Channel News Asia video cameraman, Kenny Lew, was punched.

A Merdeka Review photographer additionally claimed she was assaulted by four Police crew who attempted to seize her camera as good as mobile phone.

NONEIn the live crossover interview, Al Jazeera publisher Harry Fawcett reported which he as good as his cameraman were faced with alleged Police violence as well.

"I'm entrance to we around Skype from an iPad given the Malaysian military have usually busted the camera," pronounced Fawcett.

Malay Mail has reliable which the photographer Arif Kartono was punched by the uniformed military crew as good as had his camera smashed.

Grand deception

Even as they were we do that, people were furiously posting videos as good as still shots onto YouTube as good as social media instantaneously. And the military were stupid sufficient to reason they can hide this from the eyes of the world.

It was the grand dishonesty by Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein which provoked protesters. He had pronounced the BERSIH criticism opposite electoral fraud as good as the demand for the clean as good as satisfactory choosing was not the security threat. In the same breath, he systematic the Police to moment down as good as sealed off Dataran Merdeka.

The Police got the final notation court order to keep the protesters away. His actions made the mockery of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's so-called law reforms to open up open space.

The final straw was when Police started encircling Dataran, not with spiny wires as reported by the media though with razor-sharp barbs the kind used to protect security establishm! ents lik e prisons. The kind which the Israeli army uses opposite Palestinians.

"It was the spiny handle which did it for me," blogged Marina Mahathir. "Up compartment Friday afternoon we was still uncertain about going. Then we saw the photos of the Police rolling out the spiny wire. we saw red. Since when did the Police, or whoever is their boss, roll out spiny handle opposite their own people? Are we thugs? Terrorists? Thieves?"This is razor handle so we decided to go."

This is no hothead though the reputable blogger as good as civil society advocate. "I'm contemptible which there were people who got injured, both protesters as good as Police. None of which was unequivocally necessary. A few weeks ago, during the International Women's Day convene in PJ, 5,000 people turned up as good as there was absolutely no violence given the Police left everybody alone to do their thing. The same could have happened today, if usually the powers-that-be could have been wiser."

Why is the ruling coalition trying to sack the bank in broad daylight? Because, as Professor Damien Kingsbury pronounced two days earlier: "Malaysia is confronting the political crisis. Its government appears to have mislaid electoral legitimacy as good as is confronting the biggest plea to land upon to energy given independence half the century ago."

Kingsbury is director, Centre for Citizenship, Development as good as Human Rights during Deakin University, Melbourne, as good as is coordinator of the Australian Fr! iendship spectator goal to the East Timor elections, as good as carrying been an accredited spectator to elections in Indonesia as good as Cambodia.

The government's handling of the BERSIH sit-in criticism during Kuala Lumpur showed the authoritarian nature, according to Australian Senator Nicholas Xenophon, who was during the rally. He is part of the seven-member international polls watch team.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was conspicuous usually by his blast overpower via the total episode, withdrawal his cousin the home minister to captivate the rodent in to the trap. Finally, he pennyless his overpower when protesters were roughed up as good as most arrested.

Bernama quoted him as observant in Kuching (the Cat City) which people, including those from the opposition, have been allowed to reason gatherings so prolonged as they have been pacific as good as hold during suitable venues.

"We tell them if we wish to accumulate we give we the Bukit Jalil Stadium, we have been even willing to give we Stadium Merdeka," he said. He pronounced the same thing final year. Then the Police were systematic to open fire.

A cat has nine lives, they say. Now BERSIH has the few more lives to go.
