The much-criticised Peaceful Assembly Bill was upheld at a Dewan Negara today, merely 22 days after it was pushed by a Dewan Rakyat final month.
The Bill was tabled by Deputy Minister in a Prime Minister's Department VK Liew in a afternoon as well as upheld after scarcely 4 hours of debates.
Senate president Abu Zahar Nika Ujang authorised all senators to take partial in a debate. However, only 6 BN senators as well as 4 Pakatan Rakyat senators offered their views.
The Bill was upheld after confederation voting, with 39 senators supporting a new legislation that prohibits travel demonstrations, whilst eight senators against it.
