Ambiga: We will hold Najib to his integrity pledge

Bersih 2.0 will take Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak upon his word upon a electoral integrity oath he not long ago sealed with a Malaysian chapter of governance watchdog Transparency International.

"We shall reason Najib to each as good as everyone of those pledges," Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan told a forum upon constitution as good as governance in Kuala Lumpur today.

"We won't count what went upon before to a pledge, yet we have been sure they did not belong to a oath before to a signing," she said.

NONEThe forum, at activist group Loyarburok's apparatus centre, was hold in conjunction with a launch of a book The constitution of Malaysia: A contextual research written by Professor Andrew Harding.

Met by reporters later, Ambiga (right) pronounced while a signing of a oath was not legally binding, it was common sense that all those elected, or who were opposed for election, should act responsibly as good as with integrity.
"These have been a people who have been going to be lawmakers," she pointed out.

The four-point oath that Najib sealed states that BN leaders contesting in elections would:
  • Make truth, integrity, reliable conduct as good as accountability their use as good as give up from accepting or giving bribes as good as other corrupt practices;
  • Uphold as good as give priority to a interests of a rakyat;
  • Practise good governance as good as transparency; and
  • Comply with all a appli! cable la ws as good as regulations of Malaysia.
The initiative, started final year by TI-Malaysia, perceived a poor response from both sides of a political aisle, with usually 4 out of a 222 MPs signing.

However, Najib pronounced that he would get all BN possibilities to belong to a pledge, yet that could good be a high order, most believe, given even a ministers in his handpicked cabinet benefaction at a signing ceremony did not ink a pledge.
