MCA says doubts Dr M was serious about RCI on Merdeka citizenships

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 MCA disagreed today with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's proposal to form a special stately row on a granting of citizenships prior to Merdeka, indicating out which they had been distributed around consensus among a country's forefathers at a time.
But MCA boss Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek(picture)said he doubted which Dr Mahathir had been critical when he made a suggestion, merely which a former budding apportion was trying to indicate out which a supervision has usually since citizenships to those legally entitled to them.
"That's what he was trying to say," a MCA personality told a press discussion here after chairing a party's presidential council meeting.
"I read Dr M's statement, we don't know if he pronounced it seriously or in jest. Why should there be a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) when it was since by consensus? The supervision gave citizenships to those who were legally entitled."
Dr Chua pointed out which a pre-independence citizenships had been granted usually around mutual understanding among all 3 member parties in a Alliance.
He remarkable which all those who were residing in a Federation of Malaya at a time, regardless whether they were Bumiputeras, Malays, Chinese or Indians, had contributed equally to a nation's struggle for independence.
Dr Chua declared DAP confidant Lim Kit Siang as an e.g. of an individual who had benefited from this placement of citizenships.
"So we think, in this respect, a opposition must also confess which they performed their citizenships by this process as well," he said.
Dr Chua also urged all parties not to capture any conclusion from a ongoing Sabah RCI on a state's illegals issue, indicating out which a stately row will be interviewing over 160 witnesses.
He remarkab! le which there have been couple of testimonies so distant which have expel a Barisan Nasional (BN) supervision in a negative light though pronounced this was merely a beginning of a hearing.
"Let a RCI finish a job prior to drawing any conclusion. The RCI should not be used as a reason to overpower a government.
"We should congratulate a budding apportion for his bravery, for facing up to this problem after so many years. He inherited this emanate as well as he agreed to finalise it... if there is anything to hide, afterwards he would not have set up a RCI, correct?" Dr Chua said.
Over a five-day conference event final week, a RCI row heard testimonies from former top civil servants which illegal immigrants had been since papers to capacitate them to vote in a 1994 Sabah election.
Dr Mahathir had final week pronounced which he has not been subpoenaed by a RCI panel, though is willing to attest if required to do so.
