Press Statements

press-stThe Malaysian Elections Reform Programme (MERP) is the citizen beginning for the promotion of free as well as satisfactory elections.

During an interview with ntv7 upon 9 Apr 2012, Prime Minister Najib Razak assured us that elections will be free as well as clean. We have followed up with his assurances as well as the bloc of NGOs is putting forward the package of electoral reforms directed during restoring the suggestion as well as goal of the strange Federation of Malaysia Constitution. To grasp this, we have been proposing some-more than 204 amendments to the enactments as well as regulations related to the election systems as well as processes as well as to the relevant articles of the Federal Constitution.

In view of this, the electoral remodel programme of Tindak Malaysia which be! gan as a n doing of the eight demands put forward by Bersih 2.0 has expanded this to cover the comprehensive review of the complete electoral complement as well as process. These reforms have been intended to bring Malaysians behind to the authorized aspirations of the strange Federation of Malaya as well as Federation of Malaysia Constitutions. These reforms will take us over the 13th ubiquitous elections as well as set the tone for the destiny of democracy in the nation.

This beginning will plea the politicians upon both sides of the order to work towards the restoration of the authorized stature. While some of the proposals will need the endorsement of the elementary infancy in Parliament, others only need to be authorized by His Majesty the Yang di Pertuan Agong. Constitutional amendments will need the 2/3 infancy vote. It is important that the politicians as well as their parties state their position upon these proposals before they go to the polls in GE13.

The Bersih 2.0 bloc successfully mobilised some-more than 200,000 Malaysians to demonstrate their concerns about the lack of free as well as satisfactory elections. Issue-focused groups like Hindraf (Hindu Rights Action Force), SMSL (Save Malaysia, Stop Lynas), Sadia (Sarawak Dayak Iban Association), SABM (Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia), SCANE (Sarawak Conservation Alliance for Natural Environment), ABU (Asalkan Bukan Umno), electoral watchdogs (Mafrel & Sibu Election Watchers) as well as think-tank CPI (Centre for Policy Initiatives) have assimilated Tindak Malaysia to launch these proposals.

We await Bersih 2.0's efforts upon mobilising voters to grasp 100% audience during the elections as well as to turn monitors to comply as well as inform upon electoral irregularities during GE13. Our proposals have been meant to complement Bersih 2.0's efforts as well as we demeanour forward to gathering even some-more await from or! ganisati ons as well as people to make this call for electoral remodel the reality.
