Open letter to Khairy Jamaluddin - Single Stream Educational System - Is it a wish too far?

By: Choo Sing Chye

Your debate with Rafizi Ramli organized by UKEC (United Kingdom EIRE Council of Malaysian Students) was commendable since it had combined a less cloudier discernment in to a young minds of both a opposition as good as a ruling party.

Apparently, a pain as good as sufferings of a non-Malays parents who had sent their children to National Schools (Sekolah Kebangsaan) were not attached to your main arguments. One actuality is clear, National Schools will form a backbone of a Single-Stream Educational System if it is to be implemented. As a result of this deficiency, your arguments fell in to a accoutrements of a standard ancient Sophist (1) or should we have it some-more clearer by using Mahatma Gandhi's term, 'clever' arguments though not necessary correct or true.

From this debate, we wish to offer an additional side of a Single-Stream Educational System evidence as good as after in an additional letter, a Shadow Cabinet.

To we as good as advocates of Single-Stream Educational System.

I had invested in your idea 18 years ago when we sent my son as good as daughters to a National School (Sekolah Kebangsaan) in Ipoh.

I do not wish my son or daughters to be a encumber when blending with a Malays as good as a Indians. We have to face a tough actuality of life, when my son as good as daughters go in to a society as an adult, violation away from a protective yolk, he/she must be by then able to mix around comfortably with a Malays as good as a Indians. Most critical of all, he/she must know how to treat Malays, Indians as good as others as brothers as good as sisters as good as not j! ust frie nds.

To begin this letter, my son speaks great Malay as good as upon a initial day of school my son was blending around with a Malays as good as one Malay boy even had his palm around his shoulder, a pointer of close loyalty yet to come. By a second week, he was alone. we asked him where his Malay friends were, with much hesitation, he pointed his finger to a organisation of Malay boys personification near a school canteen. The organisation was exclusively Malays. we didn't aspire to a make a difference further.

Two months later, he was personification with a organisation of Indians as good as it carried upon for quite a little time prior to he ended up alone again. The subsequent time we saw him, he was with an additional couple of Chinese bo! ys. we saw their loyalty lasted by a total of his initial school days. we was unhappy though this did not finish here.

The second beating came when he was in Standard Three. we saw him lagging in his studies as good as we asked him why? He said which a little of his teachers often skipped classes. we admonished him angrily not to use this aged-old excuse for not we do good in school.

I longed for to know a truth, we leafed by all his practice books, to my horror most of his books remained unmarked as good as it had already pass a half symbol of a year. we crossed checked with an additional Malay parent as good as he confirmed what my son was saying. He even quipped which a little of a teachers left from school during a UMNO conventions. This, we did not share his joke.

Instead of complaining, my wife as good as we took over his preparation as good as my two daughters. From which day onwards his studies showed improvements as good as in a finish he scored straight A's in his UPSR.

My youngest daughter as well is carrying a same problem. ! One morn ing, while we was passing her Standard One class, we was dumbfounded to hear her clergyman precision with a kampong jargon as good as not standard Malay. From her slang, we know she is from Southern Perak (Parit area). Honestly Khairy, how many Indian as good as Chinese girls during their initial day in school understand this non standard Malay spoken by ! a teac her?

Anyway, we just smiled during a clergyman when she saw me, though in my heart, we couldn't censure her, we censure a precision she had which is being UMNOised rsther than than Malaysianised.

Now fast brazen to a present, my eldest daughter is in Upper 6, an sheer National School product. She scored straight A's in her UPSR, PMR exams as good as scored 9 A's in her SPM. All these results got her nowhere.

My son is right away in Form 5, he scored straight A's in his UPSR as good as PMR. He will be receiving his SPM this year.

For my youngest daughter, she will be we do her initial major exam UPSR.

At this tender age, unnecessary to contend which they are faced with a being of a discriminatory policies of a BN government which we believe we as good as Rafizi didn't clear good enough. we will not assume upon why both of we didn't verbalise good upon this matter.

In my younger days, we as well had this bad experience, we remembered really clearly while we was in attendance Kesusasteraan Melayu class, a Malay clergyman referred us, a non-Malays as ! 'kawan ' as good as Malays as 'saudara'. Khairy, don't we consider this man was promoting Ibrahim Ali's or Hasan Ali's code of Malay society as against to Malaysian society in a Kebangsaan School?

The BN had instituted astray educational policies long prior to we were born as good as we was a victim as good as so were all a non-Malays then. An! d right away it is my son's as good as daughters' spin to bear a brunt of these astray policies.

Khairy, let's be real, all we can do is speak about it, though we cannot change a citation of these astray educational policies even if we do not similar to it. The policy of precision Science as good as Maths in English is in a mess. Now it is in a limbo. The Education Minister, Muhyiddin is of course, not as splendid as you, though definitely a hint brighter than Ibrahim Ali as good as Hasan Ali, though a actuality is, he does not similar to we as good as definitely will not let we touch these astray policies, even with a 10-foot pole.

Okay Kairy, let's speak for a sake of talking, if we are arguing for a merits of a Single-Stream School complement then be brave enough to foster a idea of a fairer Single-Stream complement right up to University as good as contend no to a upper secondary duo-Stream complement which we have today! And don't dont think about a fairer distribution of scholarship!
