MCA objects to Income Tax Act amendments

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will object to a due changes in a Income Tax Act to a National Economic Council (NEC), says party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Dr Chua, who is also an NEC member, pronounced he would raise a have a difference with a council, that meets every Monday.

"We have prepared a matter on a party's stand. Our MCA ministers can also bring it up," he pronounced in a press discussion after chairing a party's presidential legislature during Wisma MCA Tuesday.

He pronounced a party received a lot of complaints about a due amendments, that would give a director-general of Inland Revenue Board sole discretion over late or incorrect submissions.

Dr Chua pronounced a party objected to a due inclusion of a new Section 107D and changes to Section 81.

If a amendments are passed, a new Section 107D will capacitate a director-general to direct taxpayers to have advance payments if he has reasons to believe that taxpayers have not submitted their earnings correctly, even if no assessments were issued.

Dr Chua pronounced a due changes to Section 81 would eventually lead to a absolute power of a director-general to disregard any information, beyond a expiry of a specified time.

"We feel these changes give too most power to one person and no room for appeal. Taxpayers should have a right to appeal.

"This goes against a Government's efforts to be transparent, more business-friendly and have better gove! rnance," he said.
