Anger mounts over RM127b refinery for Johor (not Borneo States)

Why is a RM127 billion refinery being built in Johor when it is not an oil-producing state?

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah State Reform Party (STAR) is blowing hot over a planned RM127 billion oil refinery in Johor, claiming it would be an "incalculable" mercantile detriment to Sabah.
Describing a sovereign government's preference as "unreasonable" STAR authority Jeffrey Kitingan said: "If a sovereign supervision was sincere about building a Borneo states that have contributed tremendously to a national coffer by giving 95% of its oil all these years, it would have motionless to build a refinery in Sabah or Sarawak.
"As it is, inestimable waste will be incurred opposite us [with a refinery being built in Johor]. In a long term, a detriment will amount to trillions of ringgits!"
Jeffrey pronounced had a sovereign supervision motionless to site a refinery in Sabah, it would be a greatest project ever implemented for Sabah as well as Sarawak.
"Just imagine: a refinery will be processing 300,000 barrels per day while another 'nearby' refinery will be built by a Taiwanese firm to routine 150,000 barrels per day.
"This will come to a total of 450,000 barrels per day, that is a substantial commission of a nation's crude oil prolongation of 700,000 barrels per day.
"And that's a other unbelievable arrangement about a total thing. The sovereign supervision finds it fit to implement dual hyper-projects in a same vicinity.
"I exclude to believe they [federal government] do not see a mercantile anticipation of locating at least a second refinery across a South China Sea for a sake of integrity in mercantile baked sweat bread sharing," he said.
Jeffrey adde! d that i t was viewable that a sovereign supervision was vigilant upon making Johor "a super-giant" subsequent to Singapore.
"Is a sovereign supervision so vigilant upon making Johor a super-giant subsequent to Singapore that it is purposefully pouring in hundreds of billions in to Johor, upon tip of a billions for a mamm! oth deve lopment for Iskandar Malaysia supercity?"

'Slap in Borneo's face'
He pronounced with this latest misstep, a Barisan Nasional supervision has poured insults upon a concept of 1Malaysia as well as a so-called Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).
According to Jeffrey, what is viewable right away is that Sabah is seen only as a "supplier of raw resources" to Peninsular Malaysia.
"It is viewable you have been only functioning as a retailer of raw resources to a Peninsula, that means extensive waste to us.
"Just imagine a infinite waste as well as missed mercantile growths you could beget from large employment, trickle-down effects, infrastructural developments, record transfers as well as downstream processing.
"All this could spin a Borneo states [Sabah as well as Sarawak] in to vibrant mercantile hubs, but a sovereign supervision simply cannot assistance working similar to a inspired colonialist.
"It's only similar to what a British did when Sabah as well as Sarawak were colonies. We have been right away witnessing how many of a resources have been going to a Peninsula.
"This is indeed a unpleasant slap in a face of a Borneo states, " Jeffrey said.
