Despite the differences of views with UMNO leadership, UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says he will not follow the steps of his colleague Kadir Sheikh Fadzir to give up the party.
In an exclusive interview with Chinese Oriental Daily News published today, the Gua Musang MP (right) confirmed his faithfulness to UMMO as well as expressed satisfaction with his stream status in the party.
"I'm still giveaway to do things as well as contend things we wish in UMNO. Although the little of my statements will make the little people in UMNO unhappy, which does not meant we should leave UMNO," he was quoted as saying.
He likened the incident to the relationship of dual brothers in the family who infrequently quarreled with any alternative though which does not meant they contingency reject any other.
The former Finance Minister is currently the President of Amanah Merdeka, the NGO founded by him together with alternative stream as well as former BN leaders.
Last week Kadir Sheikh, the single of Amanah Deputy Presidents as well as additionally the former UMNO minister, resigned from the celebration which he had joined for 56 years. This followed attacks by UMNO leaders as well as mainstream media over his allegations which UMNO leaders were concerned in vote-buying.
On the purpose of Amanah, Razaleigh pronounced the open notice which it will serve as the third force in the Malaysian domestic landscape was the misunderstanding since he has no intention to quarrel BN or UMNO through Amanah.
He pronounced the NGO was initiated by Kadir Sheikh (ri! ght ) as well as others, as well as he reluctantly supposed the Presidency after they aggressively lobbied him. Describing his presidency as the figure head, Razaleigh pronounced he is ready to empty the post during any time if there was the more befitting candidate. The group, however, is not as active as reputed by the little quarters, he said.
"I attended the rising though after which we did not do much. The major reason is we have been too busy."
Although most of the members wish Amanah to be registered as the domestic celebration as well as play the significant purpose in the next ubiquitous election, Razaleigh hold the contrary stand: "I'm the single of the minority who against it since I"m already the UMNO member. we can't be the part of of dual domestic parties."
"Some people think we should give up UMNO though we have been active in UMNO for almost 50 years," he continued, reiterating which he has no intention during all to leave the ruling party.
Dual-party membership disallowed
He simplified which he as well as his colleagues in UMNO did not give up the celebration in 1987, instead they had no preference though to form Semangat 46 since they were not authorised by the then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to stick on the 'new UMNO' founded by Mahathir when the original UMNO was declared bootleg by the court.
After the 1995 ubiquitous election, Mahathir requested which they lapse to Umno, hence they dissolved Semangat 46, he said. Asked since Semangat 46 was dissolved, Razaleigh simply answered which it was since the person is not authorised to have dual-party membership. There was neither any promise by Mahathir nor any request by him when both factions reunited.
On the allegations which Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim (left) approached him as well as alternative BN parliamentarians to stick on Pakatan Rakyat to topple the federal supervision on Sept 16, 2008, Razaleigh denied it.
He pronounced Anwar did engage him to form the brand new supervision though did not run him to stick on Pakatan.
"At which time we told him we will not follow him. we will go on to stay in UMNO as well as we wished him good luck. we additionally advised him not to be over confident since these people (BN MPs) will shift their mind anytime as well as he might be disappointed. But Anwar replied which he will go on to pull for it. Looking back now, we was right. The plan was in truth hard to be realised," Razaleight revealed.
On Anwar's ability, Razaleigh pronounced he is an outstanding statesman who can unite all the 3 opposition parties though his governing capacity has nonetheless to be tested.
Contrary to the renouned perception, Razaleigh commented which the Achilles' heel of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration is the concept of 1Malaysia."Many people will ask if we really believe in 1Malaysia, since there have been still so most racial issues?"
Although Najib (left) is the hardworking politician, Razaleigh noted, the single of his greatest hurdles is to address the problems hereditary from the previous administration, including discriminatory policies, corruption as well as substandard open delivery system.
"Take the domestic celebration as an example. Some people might ask, how can we foster 1Malaysia when the celebration we lead, which is UMNO, is still the racial party?"
