The Cheras-Kajang Highway, which spans a stretch of 11.5km, is a crucial categorical main road which links Kuala Lumpur city centre with Kajang. It was non-stop to open upon 15th January 1999. There have been two fee booths during a 9th as good as 11th km of a highway.
The fee charges have been RM1.00 as good as RM0.90 respectively. This is an intensely heavy weight upon main road users as a booths have been barely 2km apart as good as a lapse tour costs commuters a large RM3.80!
The categorical main road fee benefaction agreement was executed in 1995 for a tenure of 30 years commencing 19th September 1995 as good as expiring upon 18th September 2025.
However in 2002, as a result of open protests, a sovereign supervision did not allow a categorical main road concessionaire to raise a fee rates according to a abovementioned agreement as good as as compensation, extended a concessionaire! 's ter m by 2 years as good as paid them RM105.15 million.
At a same time, in order to equivocate regulating a tolled highway, residents of Bandar Mahkota initiated a campaign to titillate a supervision to open up a categorical main road during Bandar Mahkota. Their onslaught lasted a few years, culminating in a full of blood incident in 2008 which captivated national attention. Happily, their efforts did not finish in vain as good as a main road was non-stop up for open use.
However, all is not good as a sovereign supervision has nonetheless again granted an extension to a concessionaire, this time for 3 years. The original building a whole price for a Cheras-Kajang Highway was RM282 million as good as until a finish of 2010, sum maintenance losses amounted to RM147.3 million.
By a! same to ken, until a finish of last year, a fee concessionaire collected charges amounting to RM585.5 million. If one adds up a compensation amount as good as a profit fron last year, a concessionaire stands to have a towering RM261.35 million. This is only up to 2010. The people's calamity will last for an additional 20 years before a benefaction duration runs its course.
According to a created reply by a Ministry of Public Works, a fee charges for this categorical main road will be revised again in 2013. If there have been no objections, a lapse tour can price up to RM5 or RM6. If there is widespread open protest, you can envisage which a sovereign supervision will nonetheless again magnify a benefaction duration as a compensatory move. If a people do not protest, they lose. If they protest, they still lose. It is a lose-lose incident for a rakyat whilst a government's cronies reap outrageous increase from this unilateral deal.
This ridiculous incident has tired a patience of categorical main road users as good as they have been rising a signature campaign to apply to for a fee to be abolished. Their target is to pick up 100,000 signatures as good as submit a apply to to a Prime Minister.
