Keep to your word, HRP tells PM

HRP is raising a storm over open universities ignoring a supervision gauge for a longer Deepavali break.

PETALING JAYA: The Human Rights Party (HRP) wants Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak, to put his income where his mouth is in ensuring Indian university students have been postulated a longer legal holiday for Deepavali.

During a launch of a 1Malaysia Indian Students Movement in University Malaya on July 27, Najib had voiced which adjustments would be made to universities curriculum as well as report to enable Indian students to lapse home for Deepavali.

A round from a Ministry of Higher Education followed this announcement as well as directed open universities to provide a longer mangle for Deepavali from Oct 25 to 28. Deepavali falls on Oct 26.

But according to HRP which gauge has been largely abandoned by a series of universities which have usually exempted Indian students from attending lectures rsther than than declare those three days as festive holidays.

In an open minute to Najib, HRP's pro-tem secretary-general P Uthayakumar, named Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) as well as Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as among those defying a directive.

"UKM's deputy clamp chancellor, Professor Noor Azlan Ghazali, even told a tyro leader, Kok Kiong Lum, which there have been too many holidays in Malaysia," he stated.

"He pronounced which even Hari Raya as well as Chinese New Year holidays have been usually dual days prolonged so it is usually fair which just a single day be given for Deepavali."

Uthayakumar further pronounced which UNIMAS as well as UMS were conducting lectures on Deepavali day itself as it isn't a open legal holiday in East Mala! ysia.

"The Indian students there must also be given a opportunity to lapse home as well as be with their families on this auspicious day," he said.

Bad implementation

On another note, Uthayakumar forked out which vegetarian food as well as university bu! s servic es to nearby Hindu temples any Friday as directed by Najib has also been abandoned by universities.

He questioned either this was partial of a "good supervision policy, bad implementation" domestic gimmick.

In calling on Najib to intervene in both matters, Uthayakumar pushed not usually for a longer Deepavali mangle though a single which is an additional 4 days some-more than formerly announced.

"We hereby call on your goodself, in a true suggestion of 1Malaysia, to emanate a supervision directing all open as well as in isolation universities as well as schools national to grant a the single week legal holiday from Oct

24 to twenty-eight as has been postulated for Hari Raya, Chinese New Year as well as Christmas for every year in a future," he said.
