Big gas find off Sabah west coast

KUALA LUMPUR - Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, the scrutiny as well as production arm of Petronas, has done two significant gas discoveries in the shoal waters off west coast of Sabah.

In the statement, Petronas pronounced the initial find was around the Zuhai East-1 well, that was located in the Samarang Asam Paya Block about 130km south-west of Kota Kinabalu.

"The current guess of gas-initially-in-place is about 550 billion customary cu ft," it said.

Similar reservoirs in the circuitously well about 5 km to the easterly of the Zuhai East find were tested to upsurge gas at the limit rate of twenty-one million customary cu ft per day, it said.

Petronas Carigali is the solitary equity holder of the production-sharing contract (PSC) of the Samarang Asam Paya Block.

It pronounced the second discovery, at the Menggatal-1 well, was located in Block SB312, about 110km north-east of Kota Kinabalu.

"The Block SB312 PSC is the joint-venture between Petronas Carigali with 60 per cent equity as well as KUFPEC Malaysia (SB 312) Ltd, the subsidiary of Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co, that binds the superfluous interest," it said.
