Bar Council says shocked and 'extraordinary' with sex video screening in court

The magistrates court should not have screened a sex video allegedly featuring Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday since a Datuk T contingent had already pleaded guilty to a crime, says a Bar Council.

Bar Council boss Lim Chee Wee described that a courts decision in permitting a video to be shown as shocking as well as extraordinary.

He stressed that there was no reason to do given those accused of screening a video had readily admitted to a crime.

There is no need to since they have already pleaded guilty; we am astounded why a sex video was shown in court.

This is an unusual procedure, we am repelled as to why it happened... if a chairman has already pleaded guilty there is no need to (reveal a evidence), Lim told The Malaysian Insider.

The counsel said a courts movement was inconsistent with standard procedures in such cases, where justification is usually suggested during a march of a full hearing as well as when a accused maintains his or her innocence.

Former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, office worker Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah as well as former Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim, all of whom make up a Datuk T trio, were fined yesterday for their involvement in a screening of a sex video during Carcosa Seri Negara Hotel here upon Mar 21.

Abdul Rahim was hit with a RM1,000 excellent for aiding Shazryl as well as Shuib, who were fined RM3,000 as well as RM1,500 respectively.

Elaborating further, Lim said a low mark meted out was relevant to a offence committed by a three.

I have no complaint with a punishment, it is only a sex video screening that is an issue, he added.
